Japanese people don’t have one

What is your middle name? Does it carry any special meaning/significance?

I don’t have a middle name. I think most Japanese people don’t have one. As far as I know, middle names have the following meanings/significance:

• Religious baptismal name: Christian names are especially common as middle names, and in this case they are called “Christian names.” They are given to Christian children or those who convert and receive baptism.
• Ancestor’s name: In order to continue the family line, it is common for the first son to be given the name of an ancestor or grandfather.
• Former surname (for married women): In Japan, when a woman gets married, her last name changes to her husband’s. However, in some countries, women choose to keep their original surname as a middle name.
• Maternal surname: The mother’s surname is sometimes used as a middle name for children.
• Name of a respected person: Sometimes, middle names are chosen to express a parent’s wish for their child to become like a respected person.

私のmiddle nameはありません。日本人の殆どは無いと思います。 私が知っている限りのミドルネームの意味は ▷宗教の洗礼名 ミドルネームの中でも特にキリスト教の洗礼名をつけることが多く、この場合は「クリスチャンネーム」と呼ばれます。 キリスト教徒の子，または未入信者が入信して洗礼を受けるときにつけられます。 ▷先祖の名前 家系を継ぐために、特に長男は先祖や祖父の名前をつけることが多いそうです。 ▷自分の旧姓（既婚女性の場合） 日本では女性が結婚する際、名字が夫の姓に変わります。 海外では、その際にミドルネームとして元の姓を残す人もいます。 ▷母方の姓 子供の名前に母方の姓をミドルネームとしてつけています。 ▷尊敬する人物の名前 こんな人物になってほしい、という親の想いがミドルネームに込められていることも。 この様な意味合いでmiddle nameがつけられると認識しています。他にもありましたら是非コメント欄に記入してください。
