Taking the Leap: My Journey Around the World

Describe a risk you took that you do not regret.

There’s a Japanese proverb I remember from a manga I once read, which says that the regret of not doing something is worse than the regret of having done it. This has always resonated with me and, as such, I seldom regret the things I do.

However, if I were to discuss a particular instance in line with the topic at hand, it would be my decision to travel around the world. This was not an easy choice to make. I had to work two jobs for two years, saving every penny I could, to fund my adventure. Then, setting out westward from Japan, I embarked on a two-year journey around the world. During this time, I never returned to my homeland and I didn’t work. I was living on the edge, with risk always at my side.

But no matter what, I was determined to achieve what I set out to do. I believed that no matter what happened, I wouldn’t regret it. Fortunately, I was supported by many people I met during my journey, which helped me turn my dream into a reality.

Looking back now, I can’t help but think that if I had let fear of the risks stop me, that would have been my greatest regret.

何かの漫画で読んだ事ありますが、やらない後悔よりも、やった後悔ってことわざを未だに覚えています。ですので、私は殆どやった後悔はしないようにしています。

ただ、今回のお題に沿って言うのなら、私は昔世界一周をしようと思い、2年間かけて二つの仕事を掛け持ちして資金を沢山貯めました。その資金を使って西回りで、日本から本当に世界一周を2年かけて成し遂げました。その期間一度も母国にも帰っていませんし、仕事をしていません。この時は沢山のリスクと隣合わせでした。ただどうなろうとも自分が成し遂げたいと思うことで、何かあったとしても後悔しないと思っていました。

幸いに旅で出会った沢山の人に支えられて、夢を現実に出来ました。もし、あの時リスクを恐れて何もしなかったら、それが一番のリスクであり、後悔になっていたでしょう。
