The Timeless Companion: My Trusty Backpack

What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?

THE NORTH FACE backpack

In the realm of personal belongings, certain items stand out, not just for their material value but for their significance and the memories they hold. Among the myriad of objects I possess, the oldest one that still serves me daily is my trustworthy backpack.

Acquired in the distant year of 2007, this backpack has remained by my side through various phases of my life. It has been a constant companion during my work and on my long-distance journeys. From daily commutes to the office to spontaneous trips, it’s always there, strapped to my back, carrying my essentials with a reliability that never fails.

Admittedly, there were several years where it lay dormant in my storage, a quiet witness to the passing time. However, it was never truly forgotten. With each opportunity presenting itself, my backpack was there, ready to serve its purpose once again.

Today, over a decade later, it continues to prove its worth. It’s more than just a container for my belongings; it’s a trusted friend that has journeyed with me throughout the years. Its resilience is a testament to the timeless value it holds, not just for me but for anyone who understands the significance of such a reliable companion.

Even as the years go by, the practicality of my trusty backpack remains unrivaled, and I am profoundly grateful for its service. Here’s to many more years of shared adventures and stories yet to be written!

I still have my backpack from college, which I bought about the same time you bought yours. 🙂 Alas and alack, I had to buy a new one for my latest trip because my old one does not hold my new laptop. It’s too small.

That’s right. Nowadays, backpacks need to be big enough to fit a laptop. I’m grateful that my backpack can just fit my laptop. Thank you for your comment.

  3. I can totally relate. I have a backpack that I use for my camping and backpacking trips. It’s a bit worn, but I see it as soaking in wonderful memories of my trips. Thanks for sharing. This brought back good memories.

I’m glad to hear you say that. I often saw backpackers sewing the flags of the countries they visited onto their backpacks. It makes for great memories, doesn’t it?

      1. When I put on my pack for a new trip, it feels like I take all my trails with me – an accumulation of all that’s come before. Everything from the burning pain from the ascents to the mountain top as well as the peace from shady, windy trails in the quiet early morning hours. Funny how an object can hold our memories for us.

I think it’s a wonderful sentiment. I read it as if the backpack is like a cherished companion. It reminded me that the backpack holds not only functionality but also memories.
